The opportunity

We are currently seeking a Cloud Engineer to be responsible for the whole lifecycle of Cloud infrastructure and services. This role will be involved from Consultancy to design to implementation to improvements and on to maintenance and decommissioning. The Operations Cloud Engineers will work in partnership with business units to smooth out releases and remove technical debt as part of the greater Cloud Engineering group.

A day in the life

  • Provide expertise in AWS best practise design and implementation for an ever-expanding breadth of AWS services and technologies;
  • Provide consultancy and design expertise to Thryv business units and elected 3rd parties.
  • Provision and promote automated solutions using pipelines and orchestration practises and technologies.
  • Promote and realise automation opportunities across application deployment, maintenance and operational activities.
  • Apply AWS and general infrastructure expertise to break fix efforts and outages.
  • Authoring technical documentation to a high standard.
  • Ensure offered solutions also consider security, usability and supportability

We’re looking for

  • Demonstrated experience solutioning and implementing AWS services and functions
  • Experience with automating, managing and monitoring AWS services using Cloudformation: EC2, EBS, ELB, Route53, Cloudformation, S3, Cloudwatch, Autoscaling, VPC and RDS.
  • Strong Linux skills: debugging, package management, performance tuning and administration.
  • Strong experience with Jenkins and ability to manage pipelines.
  • Experience with AWS Systems manager and its automations.
  • Experience with backup administration tools eg. AWS backup
  • Experience with IT automation and configuration management (Puppet and Cloud formation strongly desired).
  • Experience with Python, Boto and Bash/shell
  • Familiarity of Middleware technologies (ie. Tomcat, Apache and Java).
  • Familiarity with systems management concepts, capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network concepts such as subnetting, DNS and routing/switching.
  • Desirable qualifications: AWS Certified SA – Associate level.
  • Desirable experience with RDS technologies: Oracle, SQL and PostgreSQL
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian tool sets – JIRA, Confluence and Bitbucket
  • Demonstrated experience designing and improving the reliability and operational automation of complex cloud IT systems.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL methodology
  • Well-grounded experience in classic infrastructure technologies (Networking, Linux, etc);
  • Tenacious troubleshooting skills in complex environments.
  • Flexibility: Candidates must be able to function well in constantly evolving environments and drivers.
  • Consultancy: It is imperative that Engineers are able to derive requirements and desired outcomes from teams not as well versed in technology.
  • Interpersonal skills are considered critical as individuals must function well within in the greater team.
  • Understand and have developed skill in prioritisation and negotiation.
